A Recent Alexa Vulnerability Could Have Exposed Your Voice History

Do you have an Amazon Alexa device in your house? You might want to read about this latest vulnerability.

Last Thursday, researchers from the cybersecurity firm “Check Point” released a statement regarding the issue. In the report, the detailed some security issue which could have allowed a 3rd party to access your conversation history. What’s even worse is they could have installed skills without you knowing.

Thankfully, it looks like Amazon has fixed the issue since then. However, this is no excuse. If these records were accessed by a 3rd party with malicious intentions, who knows what could have happened.

“The security of our devices is a top priority, and we appreciate the work of independent researchers like Check Point who bring potential issues to us. We fixed this issue soon after it was brought to our attention, and we continue to further strengthen our systems.” – Amazon

Companies need to start looking out for these issues, before they are seen. It seems like everyday we have some sort of security issue showing up in the news.  However, that doesn’t mean this issue shouldn’t be addressed. If someone had access to these Alexa logs, they could have learned anything from your city, order history, and so much more.
