A few days ago, Amazon announced a new line of products. One of these products was the 2nd-Gen Fire TV Cube, but it’s hard to tell the differences between this one and the last-generation device. That’s where we come in – In this post, we wanted to make it clear why you might want the upgrade.
Let’s start off with the basics – Both devices support hands-free controls. All you have to do is say “Alexa..” and the device will search for shows, pause content, and more. Also, both of them support 4K HDR content, which is nice.
The big selling point for the 2nd-gen Fire TV Cube is the speed: According to Amazon, the product is it’s “most powerful Fire TV ever”. However, this doesn’t matter to the average consumer.
What will matter is the slight increase in picture quality – The newer model will support Dolby Vision, and HDR10+.
Alongside this, voice commands will now be processed on the device itself, instead of the cloud. The first-gen did everything in the cloud, which sometimes meant slow response times. However, once again, the average consumer won’t need an upgrade just for this.
Here’s the thing – In our personal opinion, we don’t see the need to upgrade. Sure, you might get a slight increase in picture quality, and a faster system. However, ask yourself this: What’s wrong with what you are using now?
