Video game cheats have been around since the early 1980s. They were originally used for developers to test their own games. Later on, cheats became popular with consumers. The can be used to help you get through a hard part of a game or even fun aesthetic changes.
With online gaming, it’s become more annoying for players who choose to play the way the game was intended. Cheating in MMOs is seen as not fair and gives the cheaters advantages over other players. Many MMO developers have begun cracking down on cheating. Epic Games is one of those. According to their community rules and guidelines,
Play fairly and within the rules of the game. Don’t cheat, grief, team, or exploit bugs and game outcome impacting glitches.”
On November 3rd, popular Fortnite player, Jarvis Khattri, posted a video on his YouTube channel titled, I’ve Been Banned From Fortnite (I’m Sorry). In the video, Jarvis explains why he was banned. He was caught using cheating software called Aimbot. This software allows players to shoot opponents with more accuracy.
Epic has banned Jarvis for life even though he used the software on an account separate from the one he uses to compete and stream. That doesn’t seem to matter to Epic’s zero-tolerance policy. If you get caught cheating, you get banned.
Jarvis not only apologized in his video, he posted on his Twitter account that he is taking accountability for his actions. Many of Jarvis’ fans responded by creating the hashtag #FreeJarvis.
I’m going to take accountability for my actions and I understand completely why this has happened, I just wish I had known how severe the consequences were at the time and I would have never thought about doing it. I love all of you who still support me, this is not the end.

No matter how you feel about cheating, it’s really never a good idea to do so on an MMO. What do you think? Should players like Jarvis be given a second chance?
