Yesterday, Facebook released its own smart display – which is called the Facebook Portal. While it might not have as many features as the Echo Show, it’s still a good device.
Let’s start off with the obvious – both devices have 8-inch displays, along with Alexa built-in. Both of them also have cameras, which can be used for video calls. If Alexa is built into both of them, which one is better? Realistically, it’s all about what you will use it for. If you are looking for something to make video calls with, the Portal might be a better option.
The Echo Show can be considered more of a “daily driver”. You can use the screen to control smart home products, and even show things like Recipies. Another great benefit of the Echo Show is third-party skills – Popular ones include Skype, Prime Video, Nest, and even Twitch. With the Nest app, you can check to see who’s at your front door.
In short, the Facebook Portal is a bit more limited than the Echo Show. When you get the Show, you are getting support for all sorts of features – not just the ones built-in. However, it’s up to you which one to purchase. Both devices are around the same price.
