During Blizzcon yesterday, Blizzard announced the sequel to Overwatch. It’s being called Overwatch 2 (duh), and it’s currently in development.
With Overwatch 2, Blizzard is doing the unthinkable – they are adding a story mode. The first game centered around a multiplayer experience. It will be interesting to see what happens with this.
While a lot of the older mechanics and features will return, we will have plenty of new things to play with. One of the biggest differences will be a “PvE” mode, where players can face off against computer-based enemies in story levels, and replayable “hero missions”.
Another new feature is a “leveling up” system. With this, players can customize abilities and unlock new gear. What’s even cooler is the game will be cross-compatible with the older one. Players from both games will share the same multiplayer environment for PvP battles.
Alongside this, the game will also have a brand-new visuals. This means all the characters and maps will get a fresh design. If you played the first game, all of your unlocked cosmetics will transfer over.
Right now, we don’t know when Overwatch 2 will be released. It’s still awfully early, so we can assume it won’t come out until next year. When it does come out, Blizzard plans to make the experience perfect – even for new players.
