About four years ago, Sony decided to try their hand at streaming. They launched Playstation Vue, which would contain live channels for people to watch. However, their prices were a bit high – plans started at $50 and went as high as $85.
Because of this, not many people went with the service. With cheaper options such as Hulu and Netflix, it’s hard to add something like this.
It looks like Playstation Vue will shut down. Today, Sony announced that Vue would close on January 30, 2020. According to the company, Vue is closing because of “competitive pay”, and “Expensive content and network deals”.
Today we are announcing that we will shut down the PlayStation Vue service on January 30, 2020. Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected. Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business.
Even though Vue will shut down, that doesn’t mean Playstation users will be left out. Sony will continue to offer movies and TV shows within the Playstation Store. Not only that, but apps such as Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix are available to download on the Playstation 4.
